Tuesday, October 8 – Chef Bernard Janssen: Knife Skills Classes and Cookware Demo
Chef Janssen is the executive chef and culinary program manager for Zwilling JA Henckels. He is vastly experienced in the international culinary world, and we are excited to welcome him to Apron Strings’ kitchen! In addition to learning from his expertise, eventgoers will receive a $40 voucher for Zwilling purchases of choice on the day of classes.

The menu for the cookware class will include creamy corn soup, seared scallops, prosciutto-wrapped grilled chicken, and Florentine chocolate pear pie. Chef will provide tastings for the guests.

We’ve been under pressure to feature those fabulous electric multicookers. If you have a cooker that is intimidating you, or if you are considering jumping into the pot with the rest of the country, sign up now. We explore basic techniques, serve up delicious recipes, and offer tips and pointers. You don’t have to own a cooker to appreciate the classes — in fact, it’s a great way to decide if they’re for you.
Oh My, It’s After 5! ★ Wednesday, October 23, 6:00 pm – $40 per person
We have all said it. You come home at the end of the day, realize the family is hungry, and you have nothing planned. But if you have a multicooker, you can still get supper on the table in a jiffy. We’ll show you timesaving steps while we make chili (with frozen hamburger?!), meatloaf & baked potatoes (cooked at the same time), and chicken & homemade noodles with mashed potatoes!
The Beginning ★ Monday, October 28, 6:00 pm — $40 per person
In this class, we’ll focus on purchase points and getting to know your new best (electric) friend. We’ll still have plenty of time to explore some of our favorite easy recipes to kick-start you getting comfortable and cooking at home. The menu will include risotto with peas & mushrooms, braised carrots, savory black beans, homemade yogurt, classic cheesecake, and instant berry sauce.
Comfort Food ★ Monday, November 4, 6:00 pm – $40 per person
We’ll provide pointers and tips about how to convert your favorite recipes in order to create them in a multicooker. The menu will include some delicious and easy classic comfort food. We’ll make a rich French onion soup that will be followed by Boston brown bread and lasagna (including homemade ricotta and sauce!). The meal will find a perfect ending with molten lava cake.
Potluck ★ Monday, November 25, 6:00 pm – $40 per person
We’re serving up some more delicious recipes and share some new techniques to use in your electric multicooker. This time, we’ll focus on troubleshooting, offering tips and pointers to keep you cooking with ease and success. The menu will include smoky bbq chicken tacos, mac & cheese, Boston baked beans, instant pot-ato salad, and deviled eggs.

The Lightside of the Multicooker ★ Monday, January 6, 6:00 pm – $40 per person
Working on your favorite eating plan? Let’s use multicookers to prepare and enjoy dishes that will fit in some of the popular plans. On the menu: Mediterranean quinoa salad, pulled pork lettuce wraps, and a special dessert. As an added bonus…bone broth!
Wild Game Cooking

If you ever wanted to learn what to do with your wild game meat, or just to try some more exotic protein, these classes are for you. Two hunters who love to cook share their expertise and recipes, so make sure you get in on this truly unique culinary opportunity.
Indian Cooking Series
“To Curry and Beyond”

Indian food includes curries, yes, but also much more! In this quick glimpse into Indian cuisine, we’ll make naan flatbreads, smoky lentil dhal, aromatic rice pulao, homemade garam masala mix, butter chicken makhani, yogurt raita, cheesy palak paneer, chai bars, and creamy chai mar-tea-ni! (If you don’t know what those words mean, that’s all the more reason to come join us.)

By popular demand we continue the trip to India, exploring the warm aromatic spice cooking of curries and other favorites with new recipes and techniques. This time we’ll feast on pork vindaloo, turmeric rice pilaf, potato-chickpea curry, buttery roti flatbread, creamy mango lassis, and a masala-tea-vodka cocktail.

Ah, the French macaron. The easiest, most creative cookie you can make with just a few ingredients, and yet every recipe includes a troubleshooting guide. Come to Apron Strings for a few hours of macaron tutoring and fun. We’ll get your hands in every step of the macaronage and will send you home a master macaroner. Space is very limited. Making cheese is always delicious and satisfying, but stretching and pulling mozzarella is particularly FUN. Whatever we don’t eat right away will be utilized in cast-iron skillet pizza, marinated mozz cubes, and even a surprisingly tasty apple crisp.
No-Knead Artisan Bread

Learn how to make the easiest and most impressive bread ever! We’ll make the popular overnight no-knead bread while enjoying some delicious variations and accompanying spreads: think rye with Benedictine spread, jalapeño-cheddar with cilantro-lime butter, cheesy asiago with pesto cream, and cranberry-walnut with honey butter. Each person will make and take their own loaf home to bake.
Rolls and Twists

We’ll make sticky buns, lemon-berry cheese twirls, butterhorns, and asiago pesto twists, all with one easy dough using Tangzhong method.

Cookies are classic for Christmas, but you might find a new tradition when you try these fast, flaky, and flavorful orange-cranberry-pecan scones with zesty whipped cream! Amanda will share the secrets of one of her family favorites in this 45-minute class.
LET THEM EAT CAKE: a biweekly coffee & pastries class
Held the “odd” Wednesdays of each month, 10:00 am-11:00ish — $15 per person.
Join Amanda for a relaxed yet instructive coffee break. Together in a super-informal baking session, we’ll whip up something delicious to munch on while we sip endless cups of coffee. It could be a fancy French patisserie, a down-home sweet roll, or a jazzed-up scone, who knows? You’re invited to come early and stay late to chat and enjoy our space; bring your favorite mug, a sweet tooth, and friends.
